Welcome to
The Innovation Academy

The Innovation Academy is a project-based program within a public high school designed to give students the power to own their learning. Students collaborate with community partners, IA facilitators, and content teachers to earn credit for multiple classes within one project design. The Innovation Academy supports real world, personalized learning within a flexible learning environment and schedule.

Focus on 21st Century Skill Development

Innovation Academy allows a safe space for students to recognize their strengths and weaknesses and practice them in authentic ways. Projects that engage students in career exploration and interest development teach real world competency skills to enable students to build their abilities in an ever-changing world.

Core & CTE Content

Projects attach to multiple subjects and courses

Students earn credit for multiple content classes by connecting standards to one centralized project or problem statement.

Every student earns credit for Project Management which is the development of the project with their facilitator. Each block of IA students are enrolled to take are connected to one of our content courses. Students compete the courses through showing mastery of the content through the project or through alternative assignments.

The Design Thinking Process

Project Framework

Design Thinking is the scaffolding for student project development and innovation.

The Design Thinking Process allows students to take ownership of their learning. By walking through this cyclical process, students are empowered to navigate the unknown and take the risk in practicing skills they are developing. The Design Thinking Process also helps students learn to fail forward, revise, and learn from the journey.

Students Connecting with Mentors

Building connections with community members and businesses allows our students to feel that their work is valued and can have real impacts. Mutually beneficial partnerships let students explore careers while helping others with their own business needs. It also includes our community in the learning process.
